Okay! Almost halfway through June and we're at 55/67 books. I got my new library card as well.

Currently Reading:
  • Dracula by Bram Stoker
  • The Way Spring Arrives And Other Stories edited by Yu Chen and Regina Kanyu Wang
  • The Tyrant Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson (Masquerade #3)
  • The Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong, translated by Martin Palmer
  • Men Who Hate Women: From Incels to Pickup Artists: The Truth About Extreme Misogyny and How It Affects Us All by Laura Bates
Dracula via Dracula Daily.
The Way Spring Arrives is ongoing; I need to try to read from it more regularly so I can finish it!
Got a copy of Tyrant from the library so I can continue picking at it.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms I'm reading with a book club. So far I'm...not really enjoying it, but I'm willing to continue because I've only read the first three chapters.
Men Who Hate Women I got from the library, which I'm glad I did because it's brutal and I don't think it's something I want to buy because I won't reread it.

Shortlist:
  1. The Councillor by E. J. Beaton
  2. The First Sister by Linden A. Lewis
  3. The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun
  4. A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab
  5. Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism by Amanda Montell
  6. These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong
  7. Small Gods by Terry Pratchett
  8. The Queer Principles of Kitt Webb by Cat Sebastian
  9. The Adventures of the Incognita Countess by Cynthia Ward
  10. Paladin's Grace by T. Kingfisher

Reviews:

Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall (Boyfriend Material 1)

5/5. This was a 4/5 the first time I read it but on reread I enjoyed it a lot more. Alexis Hall really does write incredibly real characters and he understands how to create tension between romantic leads and how to use the supporting characters and subplots to full effect. Oliver is swoonworthy. I'd date him!

The Perfect Crimes of Marian Hayes by Cat Sebastian

3/5. I may return to this once I've read the preceding book, which I own and which I really hope I enjoy. Because I did not enjoy this. It feels very...instalove in a way that's not compelling. I feel like there needed to be a lot more buildup to sell the romance, and I thought the plot of the novel was really boring. Also Percy seems like a deeply annoying guy. I liked the sexual dynamic of these two characters, but that's pretty much it.

A Psalm for the Wild-built by Becky Chambers

5/5. Wow! What incredible worldbuilding, done so deftly, and what a great dynamic Mosscap and Dex have. I totally get the appeal of Beck Chambers's work now. This kind of hopeful sci-fi is really engaging and I think I needed it. Definitely looking forward to reading more of her work.
