Wren is marched up to Cross's office again. She vows to not be horny over him and is immediately thwarted by the sight of his abs.

Cross is shirtless and taking off all his weapons. In the middle of his office. I don't...okay.

We get some more banter before Cross tells Wren she'll be punished because beating up your fellow recruits isn't allowed. I mean, no shit. Wren herself should understand this.

He ignores that. “Insubordination has consequences. But I’ll tell you what—I’ll give you a chance to avoid punishment.”

He opens his office door, then walks to his desk and leans against it, nodding toward the gaping doorway.

“Get to the door. If you can get through me, you’re free to go. If not, every member of Black Cell is running laps again tonight from dusk till dawn.”

This is so transparently a set up for these two characters to be horny at each other. Like, it doesn't make sense otherwise. If you think about the facts of the situation, it just doesn't make sense. It's just here because sexy sparring is a trope.

Next scene.

The trainees receive their grades. Wren has scored 49%. Lyddie immediately starts to comfort her. Wren thinks that she would like to dislike Lyddie but can't, and I would loved to have seen her dislike her even once. Wren only dislikes people if they're mean to her personally, as far as I can tell.

Case in point: Wren then loses her shit because she wasn't issued a leisure pass for Sunday. Why? Obviously because she's under suspicion by the leader of the military operation she's training for. But instead of reasoning that out, Wren throws an actual tantrum in the cafeteria until someone takes her to Cross's office.

Am I supposed to be rooting for her? Are these moments of idiocy meant to be impressive? Because they aren't! She acts like a spoiled toddler, which is insane when she's supposed to have been in hiding for her entire life.

They refuse to take her to Cross's office, which, duh.

Next scene.

Wren links with Wolf while she fumes in bed late at night. They have a vague conversation about their feelings-all their conversations are vague since they don't share personal details--and then Wren tells Wolf she'd rather live than die for revenge. Oh, we're over revenge, huh. I guess she's over her uncle's death now. Cool.

Wren then decides to go for a walk. At night. Alone. Without permission. Can't wait for her to get caught in the next chapter and outraged about it.
